Rachel and I had a really great week in Prince Edward Island. Our hotel was right on the water, which was so great! When we were back in time we would sit on the veranda watching the sunset over the water. Every morning we would open the windows to listen to the sound of the waves, and smell the ocean air and feel the breeze coming in. We toured all of the Anne of Green Gables sites: the birthplace and grave site of Lucy Maud Montgomery, the museum, Lake of Shining Waters, post office, Haunted wood, Green Gables, Lover’s lane, Avonlee village, the apple tree where Lucy wrote the first book. We visited Charlottetown and saw “Anne and Gilbert” the musical, took a “hippo” tour, and walked around the city. I loved one of the parks that had a rock from every Canadian province. We went out to the West Point Lighthouse on the red sands beaches, which was really pretty. We drove along the coastal roads whenever possible and stumbled upon another lighthouse that had the coolest little bluff you could walk out to and half moon cliffs surrounding it and caught the beautiful sunset. We ate cow’s ice cream as much as possible, which was so good! We tried some raspberry cordial. We drove around all 4 of the coastal drives, visiting lots of beautiful beaches and wind carved sandstone.
The last day we were there it rained a lot, so we planned the biggest drive around the East side of the island, visiting lots of different lighthouses. With the exception of the West Point one, all of the other island lighthouses were very very similar. Mostly white with red trim. We visited the one that was the first to receive the Titanic distress call.
Right after we got to the island I sent a text to my friend Joella, who had just been there in May, and asked for her recommendations. My favorite suggestions from her, were to approach Green Gables for the first time from the post office walking through the haunted wood, and to try the apple fires (and we got the poutine as well) from the stand next to the Hippo tours. Both were excellent suggestions. As well as to get some Cow’s ice cream! So thanks Joella! 🙂 It was such a great trip! The Island is so beautiful, I can see why Anne loves it so much! 🙂
